Galley Beggar Press is about to release a new book: Telenovela and so I've been gainfully occupied for the last week or so...
Hello!
My regular Links, Tips and Suggestions column will return soon, I promise. There are quite a few other things I’m hoping to write about here too. But! At the moment I’m too busy at the day job, where I’m doing the best I can to make sure as many people as possible read this wonderful novel:
Physical copies arrived a few days ago. Most were sent to our distributor Turnaround, ready to hit the shops by publication date on 26 November. But quite a few were also delivered on to a place in Norwich called Carrow House, which used to belong to the mustard magnate Jeremiah Colman (hence the mustard box you can see in that photo) and now houses a wonderful array of charities - and, for a few weeks, Galley Beggar Press.

The books arrived on a lorry and - and this is one of the real privileges of being an independent publisher - I got to carry hundreds of them with my own hands, down some stairs, into the room we’ve hired, generating plenty of sweat on my own brow.
And then:

Gonzalo arrived and diligently signed them. Now, we’re in the process of packing them up and posting them out.

Which is all quite time consuming - and a long way of saying that this is why this Substack newsletter is more tardy - and less focussed on the wider world - than usual.
But also a way of saying that I’m in the middle of doing some of the work that really matters. Telenovela is a superb novel1 and it makes me proud.
Okay! I’m still taking reading recommendations - or indeed thoughts on books to avoid - here. In the meantime, I’m heading back to do some more packing…
I rhapsodise about it more - and offer chances to buy it in the regular Galley Beggar Press newsletter.

I had the good fortune to read it for review and I absolutely loved it.
Looking forward to Telenovela arriving at my door!
